"Pau d'Arco bark" comes from a tree that makes
its habitat predominantly in Argentina and Brazil, but which also grows in
other tropical areas. The tree is known by the name taheebo. The tree bark
is used to promote health and immunity in South America.
Pau d'Arco contains a chemical called lapachol, which may
provide nutritional support to the immune system.
Nature's Herbs Wild Countryside Pau d'Arco is harvested
from its natural, wild environment in the high mountain regions of South
America. Our exclusive FreshCare System inhibits normal plant oxidation,
maintaining product potency and extending freshness. It includes all-natural
antioxidants in each capsule. |

Pau d'Arco - Ipê Roxo Bark
resources
Pau D’Arco, or Ipê Roxo or Lapacho, is one of a number of
herbal medicines that has come out of the Amazon rainforest in recent years.
As doctors find antibiotics less and less effective against mutating
diseases, they are looking to nature for answers.
Pau D’Arco has been exported from Paraguay, Brazil and
Argentina for more than 100 years, but its remarkable properties have been
obscured in the past by poor transport and storage that have degraded the herb.
Scientists are now investigating its effect on diseases as varied as arthritis
and even cancer.
The bark of several species is used medicinally (particularly
the Inner Bark of Tabebuia impetiginosa A.K.A. Lapacho or Taheebo). The
inner bark is dried, shredded, and then boiled making a bitter/sour tasting tea
that has a brownish color. However, one can realize the full effect of this
herbal remedy via pill form with minimal taste (minimal because once the gelatin
capsule dissolves in the stomach, the unpleasant taste can be noticed though
much less than liquid form). Typically the herbal remedy is used during
flu&cold season and for "curing" smoker's cough. The Pau d' Arco herbal remedy
apparently works by promoting the lungs to "cough up" and free deeply emmbeded
mucus and/or contaminates during the first 3 - 10days of treatment. Since the
contaminates/mucus do not "magically" disappear, the first week or two of
treatment can sometimes be confused as a worsening of the lungs due to a
noticeable increase of Phlegm being coughed up. The wood is used for furniture,
decking, and other outdoor uses. It has a fire rating of A1 (the highest
possible, the same as concrete), and is denser than water (it sinks). It is
increasingly popular as a decking material due to its insect resistance and
durability.
